When rains come,

these tides will rise.

As days pass,

these will subside.

51 Afro Duck Stare Down - Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I’ve seen this guy several times while strolling the canal path and it’s always the same deal.  I took this shot at my own peril.

“You lookin’ at me?” Swimming closer to the shore, he says, flicking his beek up and down.

“No, I’m just walking on the canal, pal. Take it easy.” I reply, hesitating a bit.

“No… I SAID - are you lookin’ at ME!?” He says with those beady, squinted duck eyes.

“No,” I say, backing up. “Uh… I’m … just walking on the canal buddy… Minding my own business.”

Then there’s usually this uncomfortable silent stare down thing before I have to yield the path or just keep walking.

A little touchy about the bad hair day thing, perhaps?

Lifeless trees on holiday

basking in the sun.

On risen tide they float away

49 Duck on the Canal - Monday, February 18th, 2008

It was a perfect day for a walk on the canal. I found this duck checking out the northern view of the canal. I’m not sure what species he is but he definitely looked worse for wear. I decided to take him home and clean him up while he recuperates. I’m thinking he may be able to help out with photo shoots in the future.

48 Patterson Farm - Sunday, February 17th, 2008

The Patterson Farm will be a permanently protected, sustainable resource that will provide agricultural, open space, historic and educational benefits to the citizens of Lower Makefield Township. The ultimate use of the farm will be determined by the township in collaboration with farmers, non-governmental organizations and citizens.

The farm will provide present and future generations education on how food is grown, encourage access to fresh, healthy produce and provide a place for residents to appreciate the open space and beauty of a working farm.

Protect my tools

from Summer’s rain

and guard my feed

from sleet’s refrain.

Light my way

when darkness falls

and store my gear

’til duty calls.

46 The New Continental Tavern - Friday, February 15th, 2008

Good Food, Good Fellowship - these are some of the goals Frank Lyons (pictured here) has for the New Continental Tavern. As promised, I’m posting more photos from my visit to the unfinished Tavern. A bit of a twist however, as I’m posting them in slide show / movie format. I’ve compiled the photos from my visit with Frank and Pat into a video and posted it on YouTube.

Enjoy your Friday!

45 Glass from the Past - Thursday, February 14th

These bottles were unearthed from a small room under the first floor of the Continental Tavern. The room doesn’t appear to have any door and was most likely accessed through a trap door in the floor. Most of the bottles found are prohibition era and tell an amazing story about the building’s history.

Pat Brennan of PMB Contracting is the lead contractor on the Continental Inn construction project and introduced me to the new Proprietor, Frank Lyons. Frank and Pat were kind enough to give me a tour of the new establishment. While we toured, Frank provided some fantastic stories and insight into the buildings past and his exciting vision of its future.

I’m going to post a gallery of some of the photos later this week as well as sharing with you what I learned while talking with Frank and Pat.

Stay Tuned…
