I found a site that provides all sorts of interesting statistical data. I downloaded a bunch of the tables and started doing some correlations and I think I’ve confirmed what we already know… Yardley is a nice place to live.
The first table I looked at contained data about the crimes committed in various towns and cities. I filtered out a large majority to include only the surrounding area. The data included the following categories:
- Violent crime
- Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter
- Forcible rape
- Robbery
- Aggravated assault
- Property crime
- Burglary
- Larceny-theft
- Motor vehicle theft
- Arson1
It also included the population count for each of the cities included in the survey. At first glance it was obvious that Yardley had fewer crimes in each of the categories – but that could be attributed to the fact that the population is lower… Fewer people, fewer crimes.
So I created a new column to contain a sum all the crimes together and then another column to calculate the crimes per-capita.
