Galileo’s contributions to the progressive development of the telescope, as well as his revolutionary work to create modern scientific methods, make him one of the greatest luminaries in scientific history. The exhibit showcases Galileo’s accomplishments, his relationship to the ruling Medici family, his discoveries, and his overall impact on astronomy, physics, and math. This will be the first time one of the two remaining Galileo telescopes has left Italy. Also exhibited will be paintings, prints, and manuscripts from the priceless Medici collection.

As a collaborative effort, Tri State Weimaraner Rescue and Res-Q-Pets will for the second year be holding the Hair of the Dog 5k & Pet Expo. This event is for the sole purpose of raising much needed funds for the homeless pets in our area. Last year the event attracted almost 1000 people and raised thousands of dollars for needy dogs. This year should be even bigger and better. The event will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. and be hosted by the Silver Decoy Winery which is located in Robbinsville, New Jersey.
Join us for a day of festivities, help raise money for homeless pets, soak up the scenery, taste some wine … bring the whole family including the dog.
This year appearing will be the host of Animal Planet’s Good Dog U., renowned dog trainer, Joel Silverman. Stop on by and meet him, he will be signing his new book, What Color is your Dog as well as doing demonstrations, etc.
There will be wine, beer, music, great food, prizes/give aways, dog wash, commercial pet vendors, ask the vet, grooming services, dog agility demos, k9 kissing booth, pet adoptions & more!

Whether you’re an avid runner or someone who’s just passively thought about running, the 2009 Broad Street Run is for you. The Broad Street Runis one of the largest races of its kind. Participants range from young to old and the one, from fast to slow and from thin to… well you get the point. The one thing we all have in common at the start is an almost overwhelming feeling of spirit, and comradery. Last year’s race was dedicated to Robert Massaroni. Rob was a 29 year old social studies teacher at Robert Shafer Middle School, as well as an instructor at Black Belt Academy and Shin Karate in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Rob tragically passed away after finishing the 2007 Blue Cross Broad Street Run with a group of 60 students from Shafer Middle School.
I’ll be starting training this week and I can’t tell you how excited I am. This is one of three races I make a commitment to participate in and marks the start of the race season for me.
The distance for this race is 10 miles; the perfect distance for your first race! There’s 16 weeks until the race and that gives even the beginner enough time to lace up and get your body in shape. The benefits of running are amazing. You’ll endure a bit of pain in the beginning, but if you do it right and stick with it the glory of attaining your goal will last forever. I ran my first BSR in 2006 – it was one of the first races I ever participated in and I can still remember the nervousness and excitement I felt at the start as well as the sense of achievement and pride I felt at the finish line.
If you are a beginner, I recommend checking with your doctor to make sure you’re in shape to start a running program and following a proven plan, like Hal Higden’s or contact my good friend Bob Kaehler and have him create a plan for you. You can even start with a walk/run program. It’s amazing how fast you’ll see progress and before you know it, you’ll be counting the miles!
I run with a local group of runners in Newtown and we’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in running with a group (of nuts.) There more information on the race at and I’m including a couple links to get you motivated.
